Treatment options include meniscectomy, meniscus repair and meniscus transplantation.

Meniscus repair is used when the outer edge of the meniscus, which has a blood supply, is torn and needs to be stitched. It is performed arthroscopically and has the advantage of preserving as much of your own meniscus as possible.
When the inner part of the meniscus is damaged, it cannot heal because it has no blood supply. In this case, arthroscopic meniscectomy is performed: the torn portion is removed and the edges are trimmed, with the amount removed depending on the extent of the damage.
