Statistics show that the number of teenagers with scoliosis is increasing every year. Most cases are either functional scoliosis caused by poor posture and habits, or idiopathic scoliosis, whose cause is still unknown. Idiopathic scoliosis in particular very often progresses quickly and worsens sharply during the growth spurt. If the right time for treatment is missed in adolescence, or proper treatment is not received, severe spinal deformity can lead to permanent changes in appearance and impaired heart and lung function, and surgery may become necessary. The visible imbalance caused by a curved spine can also lead to a sense of inferiority and lack of confidence in sensitive young people, and may cause social and psychological problems. Scoliosis found in adolescence should therefore be treated quickly and appropriately to stop it from getting worse.
