For most spinal conditions, it is best to avoid surgery where possible and use conservative treatment. However, when spinal instability is severe or a structural problem has damaged the nerves, spinal fixation (pedicle screw fixation, spinal fusion) is needed to remove the underlying cause. Conventional fixation was a major operation with many drawbacks, including a large surgical area, heavy bleeding and extensive muscle damage.
To overcome these drawbacks, Dangol Hospital performs minimally invasive spinal fusion, which uses a minimal skin incision, removes as little healthy tissue (muscle, bone) as possible and precisely treats only the area that needs surgery.

After a minimal incision of about 2–3 cm, a surgical microscope provides a clear view, and the damaged bone, ligament tissue and herniated disc are removed.
A cage is then inserted to fill the empty space, and fixation devices (screws) for spinal fusion hold the spine firmly so it does not move.
