If a complete cruciate ligament tear is left untreated, meniscus tears and cartilage damagecan easily follow and lead to secondary arthritis,so prompt surgery and recovery are needed.
Using your own tendon (autograft) or a donor tendon (allograft),cruciate ligament reconstruction preserves as much of the remainingligament as possible to restore knee function.

Patients with an injured or torn ACL or PCL
Pain when standing up from a seated position, and the knee does not fully straighten

X-ray, CT, MRI and blood tests are used to check for tumors or inflammation and to assess the severity of the condition.
The remaining torn ligament between the tibia and femur is removed, tunnels are made in the tibia and femur, and the graft is inserted.
The graft is firmly fixed using an artificial ligament.

You can walk to the bathroom right after surgery and are usually discharged 5–7 days later. Wound care is needed, and you may feel stiffness from the inserted implants.
Limit movement as much as possible and wear a brace when moving.
Limited joint exercises and stretching are possible, and you may do light walking or office work.
Joint strengthening and rehabilitation exercises begin, and light physical work is possible.
